Being a volunteer firefighter takes personal commitment. As a volunteer, your time is given freely. Your fellow department firefighters and your community depend on you to honor your service commitment.
All volunteer firefighters are required to successfully complete 36 hours (3 courses) of training during their first year. Additional training courses may be required by your fire department.
Volunteer firefighters are not paid for their services in most departments. For more information on the duties and responsibilities of being a volunteer firefighter, check out the FAQs.
